George Edwin McWhirter was born in Maypearl, Texas January 5, 1906. He was the son of George Washington "Gideon" McWhirter and Maude Lee (Park) McWhirter. He is now with his lord and savior since Monday, March 21. George was a 1924 graduate of Waxahachie High School in Waxahachie, Texas and a 1928 graduate of Trinity University. He later recieved a masters degree in education from Texas Technological College in Lubbock Texas. In 1942 he and his wife moved to Webster, Texas wher he was a active member in the Webster Presbyterian Church in Webster, he served as Sunday School Superintendent , Deacon, Elder, and sang in the choir. His career in public education covered a span of fourty-three years, most of which was spent with the Houston school system. He will be remembered largely by ex-students of Milby High School where he spent most of his years as a teacher and counselor. During George's retirement he and his wife moved to Northwest Houston area where they eventually settled in Tomball, Texas. While residing in Tomball he became a active member of the Tomball Bible Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent. George leaves behind a wife of fifty-five years, Margaret Spencer McWhirter and two children, Mrs. Diane Jennings and husband Harry Jehu Jennings III, and Michael Edwin McWhirter and his wife Susan Cobb McWhirter. Grandchildren are Blake Jennings, Matthew Jennings, Shelby Elein McWhirter, Chad Edwin McWhirter, Faith Margaret McWhirter, and Brooke Ransom McWhirter students at Tomball High School and Tomball Junior High School. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 1994 in Tomball Bible Church, 400 Walnut Street, Tomball, Texas 77375 with Rev. Doug Anderson officiating. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Forest Park East Cemetery. In lieu of usual remembrances memorials may be made to Tomball Bible Church Youth Center or Alzheimer Assoc. 6161 Savoy, Suite 240 Houston, Texas 77036. The family will recieve friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Klein Funeral Home in Tomball.
