Guy married Elizabeth Evans in New Jersey in 1903. They were the parents of two sons, Raymond James Helm born 1904 and Leonard Evans Helm born in 1906. Elizabeth died soon after Leonard was born and their sons were raised by relatives. Raymond was raised by his maternal uncle and aunt, Thomas and Margaret Evans Hanlon and adopted their surname. Leonard was raised by his paternal grandparents, James and Ann Helm.
