Jeff was living in Dallas, TX when he entered the service and was the pilot of a F-84E Thunderjet fighter with the 524th Fighter Escort Squadron, 27th Fighter Escort Wing.

On June 17, 1951, while on a combat mission, his engine exploded near Taegu, South Korea.

Captain Hamilton was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
