This community was shocked to learn Thursday morning that Edgar R. Akester, a well-known citizen, had died suddenly sometime during Wednesday night and every indication pointed to death in the early part of the night. The coroner was called and death was pronounced due to heart failure.
We were talking to Mr. Akester Wednesday evening in the City Drug Store, regarding some painting and paper hanging he was to do at our home, and he seemed in the best of spirits. In fact we thought him feeling extra well. While we were with him he called up Mrs. Flick and informed her he would be out in the morning to hang a few rooms for her and in the meantime his son Robert was to work at our place. We were afterward told that even after retiring he called to Robert in the next room and told him how he had the work planned out for the next day.
It was Mr. Akester’s custom to arise before the rest of his family, but Thursday morning Mrs. Akester thought probably he was tired and she would not disturb him for a time, so she got up and started the morning work.
(This part not transcribed.)
Funeral services were held from the Methodist church Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Jeffery. Burial in Mitchell cemetery.
The family has the sympathy of the entire community in their sadness.
