U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the law department of Northwestern University Illinois, in 1910, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Lake City, Michigan. He was prosecuting attorney of Missaukee County, (1916-17) and during World War I, he served overseas as a Captain in the U.S. Army. After the war, he was again prosecuting attorney of Missaukee County, (1919-20) and served in the Michigan State Senate, (1921-22, 27-32). In 1935, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-fourth Congress and to the next seven succeeding Congresses, serving until 1951. Not not a candidate for re-nomination, he operated a 1,400-acre tree plantation until his death at age 71.
