U.S. Congressman. Educated at Oberlin College in Ohio, he taught school for several years, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1891, and commenced to practice law in Hillsdale, Michigan. He was the attorney and prosecutor of Hillsdale County, Michigan, (1896-1903). In 1921, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-seventh Congress and served until his death at age 58.
