US Congressman. Elected to represent Michigan's 3rd District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1863 to 1867. Also served as a Delegate to the Michigan State Constitutional Convention in 1867, Delegate to the Republican National Convention from Michigan in 1868, and Federal Judge in 1870.

John W. Longyear, Born Oct. 22nd, 1820 - Died March 15th, 1875

Harriet Munro, His Wife, Born March 5th, 1826 - Died Dec. 18th, 1917

2 side:

Ida Stevens Longyear, Born March 21st, 1859 - Died Dec. 17th, 1947

On the same lot is a headstone that reads:
