William Henderson Hines age 21, and his older brother Elbert Hines migrated from Georgia where they were born to Sabine Area, East Texas in 1823.

A year later William returned to Georgia and married Mary Spikes Hix. By 1827 she was in Texas to settle, having had their first three children in Alabama.

Allen J. Hines was their tenth born of twelve children. He was born in the Republic of Texas on Feb 15, 1845 on his father's homestead in Sabine County, Texas.

Pvt. Allen J. Hines and his brother Pvt. John Marion Hines both served in the Civil War: Giddings BN 21st Texas Cavalry CSA. They were stationed in Arkansas. There is a bronze marker on Allen Hines grave furnished by the Quartermaster General.

Allen Hines married Alice Ann Cooper in 1883 when he was 38 years old and she was 18. They became the parents of six children.

1. Nancy Banena Hines: b Oct 4, 1885 - d Oct 28, 1969. Married Arthur Hudspeth.

2. William Allen Hines: b July 12, 1887 San Augustine Co., TX - d Nov 30, 1945 Pineland, Sabine Co., TX. Married Nancy Ella Boyett. Occupation: Carpenter Saw Mill. Both buried Jacks Cemetery, Pineland, Sabine Co., TX.

3. Edwin Osborn Hines: b Mar 13, 1889 - d Mar 14, 1963. Married Mittie Louise Rives.

4. John Elbert Hines: b Mar 12, 1891 - d Aug 30, 1977. Married Julia Cornelia "Nelia" Wilson. Both buried Jacks Cemetery, Pineland, Sabine Co., TX.

5. Nathan Pratt Hines: b Mar 24, 1895 - d Jan 13, 1970. Married Alamay Edith Arnold.

6. Rosa Edna Hines [called Rosey]: b Mar 12, 1900 - d Nov 16, 1902. Infant. Buried Hines Cemetery, Sabine Co., TX.

Allen Hines died Feb 17, 1900. Infant daughter Rosey Edna Hines was born 23 days after her father's death.

Alice (Cooper) Hines married Jerone McDonald in 1903. They remained married until her death in 1926. They raised her children from her marriage with Allen Hines. They had no children together.

Upon her death in 1926 Alice was buried in Hines Cemetery. Four years later Jerone McDonald died and was buried in Hines Cemetery.
