Benjamin Adams was a member of Company H, 19th Maine Infantry Regiment in the Civil War. According to U.S. Civil War Soldier Records or Profiles he was a resident of Vassalboro, Maine and enlisted as a private at the age of 27. He enlisted on August 25, 1862, and mustered out on Dec. 5, 1864.

In the 1860 census Benjamin is 25 years old. He is living with his parents, John Adams (71) and Dorcas Gerald Adams (67.) Their home is Canaan, Somerset County, Maine.

In 1870 he is still living in Canaan with his wife Ellen and their children Charles (8), Frederick (2), and Benjamin (2 months.)

In 1880, Benjamin and Ellen are living in Woodland, Maine. He is 45 years old and is farming. Children in the home are Charles, Frederick "Fred," Benjamin, and George.

According to the 1890 Veteran's Schedules, his widow is living in Limestone, Maine. According to "Headstones Provided for Deceased Union Civil War Veterans 1879 - 1903, Benjamin's death date was January 4, 1890,
