Son Of:
John Daniel ("Fiddlin' John") Lilly
and
Sarah Jane (Barker) Lilly Lilly [Matherly]

Marital Status: Never Married

He was the 2nd child of John Daniel & Sarah Jane (Barker) Lilly Lilly [Moye] [Matherly].

Following a severe case of measles, he had assisted others in "putting up hay", becoming exhausted/over-heated; while walking to his home between Flat Top and Dunns, was exposed to a cold rain, resulting, it was thought, in his contracting tuberculosis for which he had traveled to New Mexico for treatment, was improving when some type of "medical malpractice" occurred, resulting in his death.

He had become engaged to be married to a nurse who worked at the New Mexico facility; she accompanied his body (via railway) to WV for funeral/burial and gave the engagement ring to a family member; it remains in the family/dl

Okey O. Lilly and Zed were close friends; Okey carried the boards which were placed over Zed's coffin and, within one week, Okey lost his life in a coal-mine accident/dl
