Her death certificate lists her father as O P Brown and her mother as Moore.
Her parents were Oliver Perry Brown and her mother Mary Moore. Mary Moore Brown died 23 Oct 1856, 5 days after the birth of her infant daughter Mary. Mary and Oliver Perry Brown had two slightly older daughters, who stayed with him and were raised by his second wife with several half siblings.
Mary was raised by her mother's sister Elizabeth Moore, who had married her father's brother Samuel Brown. They had lost an infant son, James not long before, and I imagine were only too happy to care for the little girl. Mary was raised as an only child, but lived near enough so that surely the two families saw one another. Also living nearby were Mary's grandparents John Moore with his wife Rebecca Wade, and other aunts, uncles and cousins.
