Enlisted in Company K, Michigan 8th Infantry Regiment on 23 Sep 1861. Mustered out on 21 Aug 1865 at Detroit, MI. According to his war record, he was wounded and a prisoner of war.

For a time (1889-1893) he lived at a home for disabled veterans in Milwaukee, Wisonsin. His record there indicates that he was 5'4" tall and a painter by trade.
