Billy Joe Baker, 72, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Saturday, December 13, 2014 from the home of his daughter after a brave battle with cancer. He was of the Freewill Baptist Faith, a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and was a retired employee from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Billy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Lois Faye Baker; a son, Brian Joe Baker; granddaughter, Alyssa Baker; parents, Cardith and Violet Baker; sisters, Anna Henderson and Benetta Mullins; and brothers, Gary Baker and Royce Baker.
Surviving are son, Billy Lamar Baker and wife Gaynell; daughters, Anna Bolton and husband Jim and Marsha Baker and fiancé Dustin Rhymer; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren with one expecting; brother, Rodney Baker; sister, Lenora Card; special friend, Emma Jean Martin; and a host of other extended family and friends.
A special thank you to all who prayed, visited, called and extended their time during this time. Billy was loved by many and will be missed.
Funeral services for Bill Joe Baker will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Rev. Randy Carter and Rev. Chris Short officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. till time of services at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA. Graveside committal services and burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 17, 2014 in the Dewey Memorial Cemetery Pound, VA. Family and friends are to meet at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home to go to the cemetery in procession.
