Helen was born in Muskegon Heights, Michigan, the daughter of George Turnyansky and Helene (Hegedus) Turnyansky. Being orphaned at the age of two, she was raised by her sister, Rose Koteles, who also took in her other siblings, George and Julius. Helen always wanted a family of her own, and her dream came true when she met and married Dalton Brooks. Together they raised Mary Signs, Patricia (Robert Collins) (William) Lawrence, and Richard (Shirley) Brooks. Though her husband worked, times were hard, so she also worked at Norge Corp. for 22 years, in addition to cleaning houses to make ends meet. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters. She was also a charter member of the Muskegon Eagles Auxiliary No. 668. She loved to cook, and always brought her famous fried chicken to family gatherings, as well as a few pies. In her later years, she suffered from Addison's disease, but died of a gastro-intestinal anurysm. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Dalton, who died in 1999; her parents; her sister, Rose (Steven) Koteles, two brothers, George Turnyansky and Julius Turnyansky. She was dearly loved and is greatly missed.
