Samuel Jacob Carter, Jr. (Junior) was born on November 19, 1948 in Palatka, FL and passed away on August 5, 2011 in his Green Cove Springs, FL residence.

He is preceded by his father, Samuel J. Carter; mother, Alice Deratany Carter and nephew, Daniel Smith. He left behind his brother, Joseph Carter; sisters, Jean Carter Dunnmon, Alice Carter Lowder (Bobby) and Patricia Carter Adams (Patsy); aunts, Irene Dickinson and Jo Ann Carter; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was injured in the Vietnam War. After coming home, he was entered into the Register of Founding Sponsors of the National Museum of the U.S. Army. He received a Northeast FL Criminal Justice Certificate from FL Junior College. He was a Florida Highway Patrol Trooper for 22 years and retired Troop G Auxiliary. He dedicated 30 years of service to Georgia Pacific Corp. in Palatka, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, since he was active and completed the St. Jude Campaign for a Cure for children with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, August 11, 2011 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Rev. Charlie Hunt officiating. Visitation will be in the chapel one hour prior to service time. Interment will follow in the Jacksonville National Cemetery with military honors. Arrangements are under the care of Broadus-Raines Funeral Home, 501 Spring St., Green Cove Springs, FL.
