Mr. Alger was born Sept. 20, 1925, in Stanley, Va., and was the son of the late Reuben Painter and Gernie Evelyn Shifflett Alger of Stanley. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Olethia Alger, and his son, Aldine ‘Deno' R. Alger Jr.
As a young man, he served in the Naval Branch of the United States Armed Services. Upon discharge, he worked in the ship building industry in the Portsmouth Naval Shipyards. He went on to become a construction supervisor in the commercial building industry in the Washington, D. C. Metro area. Once retired, he owned and operated Al's Trailer Park in Stanley, Va.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Barnes Alger; two daughters, Judy Scheweller and Delma Harris; three stepchildren, Ray H. Barnes Jr., Mary Ann Barnes and Bonnie R. Blomstrom; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a special friend, Topsy Mathews.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 p. m. at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday at Dayton Cemetery with the Rev. Judy W. Loehr officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, 3700 Lee Highway, Weyers Cave, Va. 24486
