Irma was born May 6, 1920, in the town of Manitowoc, daughter of the late David and Emma (Schultz) Schurr. She was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1937. On March 7, 1953, she married Kermit Johnson in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 2004. Irma was a secretary for the city of Manitowoc, retiring in 1953. She was a long-time member of the Cedar Grove Homemakers Club and a member of the Ladies Aid at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law; Keith and Brenda Johnson, Valders; four grandchildren: Tiffany (Robert) Bangs, Kenneth Johnson, Kimberly (Matt) Mayzik, Craig (Amy) Johnson; ten great-grandchildren: Tori, Kayla, Kassie and Brandyn Johnson; Nathan and Addyson Mayzik; Emerald, Alyssa, and Kolten Johnson; and Abigail Bangs; brother and sister-in-law: Henry and Elaine Schurr, Manitowoc; brother-in-law: Charles Hougen, Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Paul Johnson; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Mae and Alton Hougen; and Ruth Hougen. She was also preceded in death by one brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law: Robert and Dorothy Johnson; and Ruth Bloedorn.
Funeral services will be held at 6pm on Thursday, Oct, 29, 2009, at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. James Rasmus. Burial will be at Valders West Cemetery on Friday morning, Oct. 30, 2009.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders, from 3 until 5:45pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Irma's name to the Faith Lutheran Benevolent Fund or the Valders Ambulance Service.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Manitowoc Health & Rehabilitation Center for the compassionate care they provided.
