ORVEL (J.W.) POTTER
Funeral services for Orvel (J.W.) Potter were conducted Tuesday, Oct. 30, 1990, at the L.D.S. Church in Manila, Utah. Bishop James Briggs conducted the services. Interment was in the Manila Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Cole Potter, Alan Eades, Glade Erickson, David Wood, Arlan Potter and Kevin Eades. Honorary pallbearers were Terry Wood, Robbie Erickson, Scott Wood and Michael Eades.
Potter, 85, of Box 367, Manila, Utah, died at 9:50 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 1990 at the Castle Rock Convalescent Center in Green River following a lengthy illness.
He was born Feb. 25, 1905 in Lyman, the son of the late Charles V. and Attie Estelle Hoopes Potter. He attended schools in Lyman and Roosevelt, Utah, and Manila, Utah. He married the former Relva Slaugh in Salt Lake City, and their marriage was solemnized June 29, 1932.
Potter worked as a rancher in the sheep and cattle industries and was a member of the L.D.S. Church.
In addition to his wife, Relva, of Manila, Potter is survived by two sons, Weldon Potter of Seattle, and Layne Potter of Lyman; eight daughters, Mrs. Deward (Leah) Eades of Renton, Wash., Mrs. Bob (Glenda) Bobek of Valentine, Neb., Mrs. Richard (Carma) McDowell f Indio, Calif., Carol Simmons and Mrs. Dennis (Cherryl) Wood, both of Lyman, Mrs. John (Gail) Despain of Manila, Utah, Mrs. Michael (Shanna) Olsen of Everett, Wash., and Mrs. Robert (Enid) Ferraud of Indio; two brothers, Cyril and Ted Potter, both of Green River, and a sister, Mrs. Casper (Zelda) Fox of Renton; 34 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Potter was preceded in death by two sons, Orvel and Stanley Potter; one sister, Mrs. Roy (Thelma) Boren; two brothers, Paul and Gardner Potter and two grandchildren.
