Meek attended the local school system, and came to live in High Point in 1941. He later married Geneva Camp of Shelby, North Carolina on November 1, 1942. Five children were born to this union.
June was proud that he only had two jobs in his life; Marsh Furniture Company where he worked for forty years and Mickey Body Company from which he retired after fifteen years.
Mr. Byers enlisted in the United States Army in 1944 where he served in Germany during World War II. He was a life time member of VFW Post 5574.
In addition to his parents, Meek Junior was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva; three sons, Theodore, Donald and Ronald Byers.
Those left to cherish his memory are a son, Jimmie Byers (Doris) of High Point, NC; a daughter, Delois Bailey (Don) of Chesapeake, VA; two sisters, Clady Bronson of High Point, NC and Olivia Spencer of Greensboro, NC; a brother, Benny Mock (Velva) of High Point, NC; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends; and a special friend, Ms. Florence Graham of High Point, NC.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at First Emmanuel Baptist Church, 831 Leonard Avenue, High Point, NC. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
Final arrangements are entrusted to Phillips Funeral Service, High Point, NC.
