James Perry Russell was born in Ursa, Adams county, Illinois, to James Franklin Russell and Mary (maiden name Groshong) Russell.
James P. Russell was born 7 December 1863. He lived most of his life in Quincy and Ursa, both in Adams county, Illinois.
In 1901 James wed Mary, also known as Grace, Davis (parents unknown.) They wed in Adams county, Illinois. Their marriage certificate says Mary, but family knew her as Grace; perhaps with so many Marys, that's why so many of them used nicknames or middle names. (To further add to the confusion, James' Illinois Death Index lists his mother's name as "Polly" Davis. Polly was a well used nickname in those days, for Mary.) At this point, Mary's heritage is a brick wall. We know Mary had died before 1940, due to family obituaries.
James does not seem to show up on any censuses (online at least) as a married man. However it's known James and "Grace" Davis had children. One of those children was Iva May Russell. Iva May Russell was born 11 December 1901 in Ursa, Illinois. She wed Arthur Warning, had several children herself, and died 4 January 1967 in Quincy, Illinois.
Like his father before him, James Perry Russell was a farmer. He was already a widower and living near Camp Point, Illinois, when James P. Russell died at St. Mary's Hospital in Quincy, Illinois, on 11 August 1947. His cause of death was coronary thrombosis. He was 83.
His death certificate says that James Perry Russell is buried in Ursa, Illinois' Denson "Pioneer" cemetery. That is where his parents are buried. He is listed there on his death certificate as well as on its cemetery canvass conducted by the local historical society. However he has a marker at New Providence cemetery in Ursa Illinois.
