P. 34. John Z.6 Saxton (James5-4-3-2 George1) removed from Fredonia, Chautauqua County, New York, in 1840 to Wiota, La Fayette County, Wisconsin, then known as Hamilton's Diggings. In 1842 he moved to Belvidere, Illinois, and in 1848 to Argyle, La Fayette County, Wisconsin. Here he built the first house in the village, was Chairman of the town, and in 1851 was one of the organizers of the Argyle Baptist Church. He married, first, Mary Akin, who died May 26, 1862, aged 68 years, 7 months, and 14 days. He married, secondly, in 1862, Mrs. Mary (Ferguson) La Follette, mother of the late Senator, Robert M. La Follette. John Z. Saxton had no children but he and his first wife adopted and reared several. (n)
