James Robert Adenhart, 74, of Fairplay, Md., died Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, Md.

Born Oct. 28, 1936, in Bobtown, Pa., he was the son of the late Margaret Jane Adenhart.

U.S. Marine Corps He was a graduate of Uniontown High School, Uniontown, Pa.

He was employed by the U.S. Secret Service Uniform Division in Washington, D.C., from 1970 to 1978, retiring in 1978. After his retirement from the Secret Service, he was employed with the Maryland Office of the Public Defender in Hagerstown, from 1980 to 1991. He was previously employed by the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., from 1958 to 1970.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during the Korean War.

He was a member of St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, Williamsport, Md., where he was a very active member.

He was a member of The Improved Order of Red Men Conococheague Tribe 84, Williamsport; Knights of Columbus Pangborn Lodge 1365; Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion, Hagerstown; BPO Elks 378, Hagerstown; and U.S. Secret Service Uniform Division Retirement Association.

Survivors include wife, Constance Gail Spaw Adenhart, married Feb. 6, 1960; daughter, Kimberly Wilfong and her husband, Gary, of Fairplay; daughter, Susan Palmer and her friend, Chris Davies, of Fairplay; son, Jim Adenhart of Halfway; sister, Margaret Russell of Stephens City, Va.; brother, Charles Zong of Williamsport; and grandchildren, Eric Wilfong, Jessica Palmer and Erin Palmer.

He was predeceased by his grandson, Nicholas "Nick" Adenhart.

The family will receive friends at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, on Monday, Aug. 15, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. Prayers will be offered at 5:45 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. Monday for the convenience of family and friends.

A Mass of celebration will be conducted Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Halfway, Md., at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John J. Jicha as celebrant. Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
