John was born in Brooklyn, New York. He received his baptism & confirmation on October 14, 1915 at St. Elios Greek Catholic Church. By 1918, the family had settled in Barberton, Ohio where he attended St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic School receiving his First Communion on June 1, 1924.
John enlisted in the Air Force in May 1942. He received his training at Chico Field in California before being stationed at Camp Boxdale, Louisianna. He was transferred to London where he received the Air Medal for meritorious achievement as a co-pilot. On November 23, 1943 his plane was shot down in a mission over St. Omer, France. On January 30, 1945 he was awarded the Purple Heart. In April, 1947, his remains were located in St. Andre Military Cemetery in France. His family transferred his remains to St. Augustine Cemetery.
