Clara A. Custer was born November 16, 1856 and died June 16, 1912, age 55 years and 7 months. She was married May 5, 1878 to Joseph M. Blackburn, who preceded her to the spirit world May 16, 1892. There were born to this union 8 children, four of whom died in infancy. An adopted son also died at the age of 5 years. The living children are John R. , Oak E., Nora N. and Lora R. Blackburn, all of Millwood, W. Va., the residence of their mother. They with six brothers, one sister, her mother, Sarah J. Custer, who resided with her, and a host of friends (For to know her was to love her) are left to mourn her departure.
Mrs. Blacksburn was converted in early life and joined the M. E. church in which she remained a member to the time of her death. She lived a life worthy of the vacation whein she was called and died in the triumphs of a living faith.
Her means and interest in the cause of Our Master made possible the erection of the church where she now lays Millwood M. E. Church a silent recipient of the tributes friends may bring. So long as the building stands it stands as a monument to her name.
