Mr Vol Sims, familiarly known as "Uncle Vol" one of the pioneers and oldest citizens of Cullman County died Sunday afternoon at 2pm at the ripe old age of four score and four. For some weeks past he had been in gradually failing health, and when the final dissolution came it was not unexpected. The remains were interred in Good Hope Cemetery Monday afternoon. The funeral ceremonies largely attended.

Mr Sims was twice married, the last wife still surviving him and among his surviving children are Mrs Thos Weeks, Mrs Sam Pruett, and Mr H G Sims, all of whom have advanced some distance on the highway of life.

For certain peculiar attributes which he possessed, Uncle Vol was remarkable personage, on of his most striking peculiarities being that of providing for the future, whatever emergency was likely to arise, Uncle Vol was quite prepared for it. To such an extent did he carry this trait that some time before his death he had provided the coffin and shroud for his burial.

One by one our old settlers are leaving us, and it is to be hoped that those by whom these sturdy pioneers are replaced may honor their forefathers by keeping up the high standard of citizenship by them established.
