An elderly Ravenswood woman was fatally injured Thursday at 12:55 p.m. when struck by a pickup truck near Ward's Market in Ravenswood as she was attempting to cross the street. Miss Grace Blackburn, 88, was rushed to Jackson General Hospital by the Ravenswood Volunteer Ambulance Service where she died about 5 p.m. According to information made available by Ravenswood Police Captain Robert McGhee, the driver of the truck was Paul N. Dingess, 68, of Dingess, Mingo County, who appeared before the Jackson County grand jury for a hearing. The police report indicates that Dingess was traveling west on State Route 56, Walnut Street. Miss Blackburn was attempting to cross the street from south to north at Henry Street. The victim had crossed the east bound lane of the street before she was struck. Skid marks 51 feet long were left by the truck on the roadway which was wet at the time of the accident. Miss Blackburn was a daughter of the late Josiah and Margaret Alcorn Blackburn. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ravenswood and the Senior Citizens Club of Ravenswood. She is survived by one niece, Mrs. Ada Hamilton of Akron, Ohio; and three nephews, William Blackburn of New Brighton, Pa., Von Blackburn of Ravenswood and Ralph Blackburn of Alliance, Ohio. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Chambers Funeral Home in Ravenswood. The Rev. Keith Clarke officiated and burial was in the Cottageville Cemetery
