Death's angel has once more taken from our community an aged and respected settler and citizen, Gerhart Herman Deitering, who died at his home near here, Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock of heart trouble, at the age of 75 days, 1 month and 1 day.
Mr Deitering was well known here and through the surrounding country, having settled here in 1861.
He was born in Hanover, Germany, June 2nd, 1832 and came to America in 1860, settling in Cincinnati, where he married Miss Susie Miller. With his wife he moved to Ottoville the same year, where he has always resided. He has been in poor health for over a year but death came sudden. He has always been a hard working man and has accumulated a nice farm near here, besides always lending a willing hand in assisting good improvements.
He leaves a widow and 8 children who are: Mrs Mary Dalsing, Deering KS; Henry H Deitering, Barney Deitering, Elgin NE; Frank Deitering, Bankgrove IA; Joseph Deitering, Mrs Peter Neitling, Mrs George Wenzlick and Andrew Deitering; Mrs Catherine Miller deceased.
Funeral services were held today from St Mary's Church of which the deceased was a faithful member.
