John A. Alden Was An Early Settler

The death of John A. Alden on May 25 took one of the oldest pioneers of of Rockwood Township. He passed away at Shady Lane Rest Home.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 28 at the Buttruff-Bjerke Memorial Home and interment was made in the Wadena cemetery. Fred R. Miller, Chas. L. Todd, and Carl Gustafson of Sebeka, old friends of the deceased, attended the services.
John was born October 28, 1871 at Erie, Illinois, oldest son of the late John Alden, Sr. The Alden family took a homestead in Rockwood township about 1880 and were one of the first families to settle in that town. He spent the greater part of his life in the Sebeka community and always called Sebeka his home. He was twice married, but had no children. John had a host of old-time friends in the community and he was highly regarded by all his friends.
Surviving relatives are his sister, Mr. Minnie M. Hoen, Minneapolis; one brother, Sherman T. Alden of Hibbing, Minn., nieces and nephews.
