Paul A. Kern age 51, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at his home.
Paul was born June 15, 1960 in Coldwater, Michigan, the son of Lorraine D. Kern and Richard A. Duffy. When Paul was a baby, he and his family moved to California where he graduated from West Covina High School in Covina, CA.
He attended Citrus College also in Covina, CA before he enlisted with the United States Marines. As a Marine he served his country from 1982 to 1985 when he was honorably discharged.
Paul moved to Washington State where he owned and operated his business, North Shore Maintenance for 16 years.
Paul enjoyed being outdoors fishing, golfing, he also enjoyed traveling and Karaoke. Paul's favorite was spending time with his family. He was very supportive with our valley's local youth activities.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Tonia L. Kern; two daughters, Samantha Hawes 24 years old and her husband Taylor Hawes and Kyrie-Elaison Kern 10 Years old; one and only granddaughter, Camryn Hawes; his loving mother, Lorraine Kern and father, Richard Duffy; sister, Diane Smyj, brother, Michael Duffy Kern and sister, Kristen Duffy-Betz; aunt, Betty Wilson; nieces, nephews and all of his loving family and friends.
Paul was preceded in death by his stepfather, Ralph Kern and stepson, Tony Burwell.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund to help with his daughter, Kyrie-Elaison's college fund is set up with any Bank of America.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 19, 2011, 3:00 PM at Kern Funeral Home with Military Honors. Paul will be cremated and laid to rest among his family.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Kern Funeral Home, Mount Vernon.
