Lury was the 1st of 14 children of Mary "Polly" Luce and Corporal John Abel,Sr, a Revolutionary War veteran.

She was born in Connecticut, and the family moved in 1791 to Renssalaerville, Albany, NY, where they lived until 1816. They then moved to Ravenna (Portage), Ohio.

On 12/4/1816, she married Milton Armstrong at Perry, Lake County, then part of Geauga County, Ohio. Milton Armstrong had a farm on River Road, Perry Township, in that part of Geauga County that is now Lake County.

Lury and Milton had 3 daughters: Arcilla, Mary Elvira, and Sophia Jane. They also had a son, Harcy (named after one of Lury's brothers).
