Lloyd Francis was the "scholar" in the family. After attending grade school in Marion, Indiana, he went to Campion Academy in Prarie Du Chien, Wisconsin. He then went to Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and graduated with a law degree. Lloyd served his country in World War II as a second Lieutenant in the Army. He then practiced law in Decatur, Illinois where he met Mary Shiels. They married in 1949 and Lloyd continued practicing law as a prosecuting attorney for some years. He died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 69. His burial mass was at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and was buried in Dacatur.
