Shirley Mae Madden, 46, of Avoca, Iowa passed away at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska on Thursday, Aug. 24, 1989. Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 28, 1989 at 10:30 a.m. at the Knutson Funeral Home in Avoca, Iowa with Dr. Robert Houser officiating. Interment was held in the Graceland Cemetery at Avoca, Iowa.

Shirley, the daughter of Merle and Mae Fish Pope was born in Avoca, Iowa on March 16, 1943. She was one of seven children in the family. She attended school in Avoca.

She was united in marriage to Gary Madden on July 1, 1960 at Harlan, Iowa. They were the parents of one son Chuck. They made their home in Avoca where Shirley worked at Colonial Manors Nursing Home for 19 years.

She was preceded in death by her father; three brothers: Edward Pope, Amasa Pope and Bill Pope.

She leaves to mourn her passing her husband Gary; her son Chuck and his wife Teresa; two grandchildren: Charles Jr. and Corey; her mother: Mae Pope; one sister: Alice Schueman; two brothers: Claude and his wife Karen and Clarence and his wife Diane, all living in Avoca, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Pall bearers were: Harry Green, Gerald Danker, Dennis Madden, James Schueman Jr., John Butcher and David Holst. Organist was Mrs. Robert Houser and soloist was Mrs. Charles Peterson.
