A resident of Jemez Springs since 1995, Mrs. Curran, known as Bobbie by her friends, was active in the Jemez Valley where she had served as secretary of the Jemez Springs Friends of the Library and as co-editor with her husband of the Jemez Springs Community Presbyterian Church newsletter, as well as a church elder. As a member and deacon of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Rio Rancho, she also co-edited that church's newsletter before moving to Jemez Springs.
Bobbie was a devout Christian and member of the Jemez Springs Prayer Warriors.
Bobbie was born in Orpington, England, the daughter of Edward J. and Ivy Packman Chown. Bobbie was educated in a convent school to which she was evacuated during the bombing of London in World War II and later graduated from a London business college. Bobbie met her future husband, then on leave from his United States Army unit in Germany, while attending a tea dance in London dance hall in 1956. The couple was married on September 7, 1957 in Holden, MA. They celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary this past September.
Bobbie became a United States citizen on December 18, 1992.
Besides her husband, she is survived by four children, Lydia Hoppman and her husband, Robert of Rio Rancho, Ben Curran and his wife, Lori of Eureka, CA, Jonathan Curran and his wife, Martha of Paradise Hills and Maellen Blodgett and her husband, Monty of Albuquerque, 16 grandchildren, two sisters and brothers-in-law and seven nieces and nephews. Bobbie also leaves a younger brother, Paul Chown of London, England and a cousin, Dr. Richard Knee of North Carolina.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 21, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. in Grace Church, 6901 San Antonio NE with the Rev. David Whiteley, pastor of Jemez Springs Community Presbyterian Church, officating. A Burial Service for family and friends will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Jemez Springs Community Presbyterian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in her name may be made to the Jemez Springs Community Presbyterian Church.
