John Schmelter, 84, of Collins, Manitowoc County, died Thursday morning at home after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Reedsville Funeral Home and at 2 p.m. at Niles Presbyterian church, town of Eaton, Manitowoc County, the Rev. George Krueger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Schmelter was born May 18, 1877 in the town of Rockland, Manitowoc County, son of the late John and Barbara Felber Schmelter. He married Mrs. Anna Scott in June, 1924, and they resided at Brillion for a number of years. He was a carpenter and building-moving contractor for many years. They moved to Quarry, Manitowoc County, and then to Collins, where they have resided since his retirement 12 years ago.

Survivors include his wife; a son, William J., of Lark, Brown County; three step-daughters and a step-son; four grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and a brother, Edward of Wayside, Brown County.
