Norman Westley Kerns, 64, of Vinton, passed away peacefully Monday, August 15, 2011, surrounded by his family. He attended Harveys Creek Church of Christ in Moneta. He was employed for 36 years by the Virginia Foundry. He was then employed by Hub Corporation until he retired. He loved hunting, fishing and NASCAR and was a member of The Huntsmans Lodge where he spent time with his friends and fellow hunters. He spent five long years fighting cancer and he fought a good fight. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Raymon and Edna Thomas Kerns. Surviving are his wife, Nancy W. Kerns; daughter and son-in-law, Carrie and J R Roberts; three grandchildren, Isabella, Cooper and Adelle Roberts; brother, Marvin R. Kerns and wife, Gail; cousin, Mary Lee Kerns; special nephew, Mike Reed; faithful companion, Mick. A special thanks to all the people at Blue Ridge Cancer Care. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2011, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Rusty Atkins officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Vinton. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2011, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 982-2221.
