Sylvia Jo Dix Shelley, 79, wife of Alton L. Shelley died Sunday, August 14, 2011.
Born in Horry County, she was a daughter of the late William Isam Dix and Myrtle Ruby Moore Dix.
Mrs. Shelley was a member of Walkers Chapel Freewill Baptist Church where she served as Secretary/Treasurer, a Sunday school teacher, and member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was a retired employee of A & P Food Store and
Kroger Food Store.
Surviving are her husband of 62 years of Sumter; one son, Heywood Shelley of Sumter; two daughters, Brenda S. Woodward and husband Bruce of Easley, and Lynn S. McCoy and husband Tony of Sumter; five brothers, Cecil Dix, Enoch Dix, William Dix, Jr., Weston Dix, and Larry Gene Dix all of Horry County; four sisters, Miriam Cook of Sumter, LaFrance Brown, Onieta Smith, and Laurice Owens all of Horry County; eight grandchildren, Al, Ashley, Lacey, Amber, Whitney, Rebekah, T. J. and Shelley; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stacey Anderson; and her father-in-law Walker Shelley and mother-in-law, Sallie Shelley.
Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday at Walkers Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Nat Brown officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, 1694 Fletcher Drive.
