Flossie Smith Gibbs, a resident of Carrollton Manor, Carrollton, Georgia, and formerly of Ranburne, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2011. She was 101. Mrs. Gibbs was born on April 20, 1910 in Ranburne, AL to the late Louis and Alpha Henson Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of Ranburne Baptist Church where she was the oldest member. She enjoyed fishing, sewing, and painting. She was a charter member of the West Bowdon Homemakers Club and served at various times as its president, secretary, and treasurer. What she will be most remembered for, however, is her devotion to her family and as being a loving mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis J. Gibbs, Sr.; her son, Lewis "Jack" Gibbs, Jr.; her great-grandson, Shane McIntyre; her sisters, Otie Mae Treadwell, Mary Richardson, Dorothy Alewine, and Beatrice Alewine; her brother, Junior Smith; her son-in-laws, John A. McIntyre, Jr., Richard Pitner, and Red Gerries; and a daughter-in-law, Debbie Gibbs.

Survivors include 2 daughters and sons-in-law, 5 sons and 4 daughters-in-law, 2 sisters, and a brother, 21 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held on July 6 at Ranburne Baptist Church with Rev. Don Gibbs officiating. Mrs. Gibbs’ grandsons served as pallbearers. Interment followed in Cleburne Memory Gardens.
