IVAR LUND HANSON


A memorial service for Ivar L. Hanson was held in Portland, Oregon on June 10, 1987. Mr. Hanson died at his home on Stephens Street in SE Portland on Monday, June 8. He was 90 years old.


Mr. Hanson was born on the island of Donna in Norway on July 26, 1896. Ivar came to America with his mother, four brothers, and a sister in 1902. He grew up in Lake Park, MN. He was a creamery manager for 30 years, 20 of which were spent in Gary, MN.


Ivar and his wife Charlotte purchased a furnished summer resort on Oak Island in Lake of the Woods Minnesota and managed it for six years while living on the island year round.


Ivar was a long time resident of Portland, a World War I service veteran, and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a short wave (HAM) radio operator (Call Letters; W7QYH & W0VWD) *His Great-Grandson; Evan, now has the vanity callsign; W7QYH :)


Ivar was preceded in death by his first wife; Hilda Marie (Olson) Hanson, several brothers, a daughter; Irene, and sons; Arthur Vincent, Sydney Ivar, and stillborn; Jerome.


He is survived by his wife Charlotte Clara (Tommervik) Hanson of Portland, four daughters, Mrs. Diane (Ted) Wright or Portland, OR; Mrs. Esther (Richard) Spaits of Kansas City, KS; Mrs. Dolores (Ralph) Stuart of Boise, ID; and Mrs. Norma (Dale) Carlson of Trail, MN.; two sons, Michael (Iona) Hanson of Portland, OR; and Dennis (Mary) Hanson of Prior Lake, MN. Also, 25 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.


Interment was at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR.

One of Ivar's granddaughter's shared:

"Grandpa said that when he died, he was going to "Fly to (the) Andromeda (galaxy)!"


Assuming:

*Einstein is correct - nothing can travel faster that the speed of light.

*Ivar managed to hit that top speed.


The trip to Andromeda would take him a mere 2,537,497 years. He started his journey in 1987...

as of 2024, that leaves only 2,537,460 years to go!
