Frank Merritt (Red) Davies, 70, of xxx Hill Ave., died at 6:30 a.m. today in St. Mary's Hospital after a six-month illness. He was a retired railroader. He worked for the Santa Fe railroad at La Junta from 1922 to 1936 and then changed to the Denver and Rio Grande Western railroad at Mack. He was a station agent there until 1953 when he became station agent at Palisade. He had been a Grand Junction resident of 15 years. He was a 50-year member of Blue Lodge in Topeka, Kan.; a member of the Congregational Church, Grand Junction Consistory, Telegraphers Union and Grand Junction Barber Shop chorus. Mr. Davies was born on Aug. 18, 1898 at Braceville, Ill. and his childhood and school years were spent there. He moved to Topeka in 1920 and on June 7, 1922, married Gladys Callaghan there. Survivors include his wife; a son, Charles L., of Denver; four daughters, Mrs. Rosemary Casto and Mrs. Martha Rich, both of Grand Junction, Mrs. Louis Howser of El Cajon, Calif., and Mrs. Norman Bare of Boise, Idaho; and 14 grandchildren.
