U.S. Congressman. Moving to California with his parents in 1881, he graduated from the Southwestern Presbyterian University, Tennessee, in 1893 and then studied at the University of California, (1897-98). He was president of the First National Bank, Gilroy, California, (1914-18), plus was officer and director of various corporations. In 1919, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-sixth Congress, serving until 1921. An unsuccessful for reelection, he was a member of the board of directors of the American Trust Company, Gilroy, California.
