He supervised construction of the levee in Davenport, Iowa, adding three hundred feet of earth to Davenport's riverfront. He also built the William D. Petersen Memorial Pavilion, AKA the Le Claire Park Bandshell, which is the site of the world famous Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival. His actual interment location is in the family mausoleum at Oakdale Memorial Gardens in Davenport.
