EDENTON, N.C. - Edward Griffith Bond, 65, of the first block of Queen Anne Drive, a physician of internal medicine, died March 13, 1991, in his home.
Dr. Bond, a native of Tarboro, had retired and was co-founder of the Chowan Medical Center. He graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and received his medical degree from the University of Virginia.
He was a member and past president of the Edenton Rotary Club. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the North Carolina Medical Society, First District, and Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He served on the board of directors for the Medical Mutual Insurance Corp. and on the Edenton-Chowan of Board Education from 1964 to 1982. He was a team physician for the Aces football team for 30 years and was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Edenton Jaycees and Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Edenton Rotary Club. He was a vestryman and former senior warden at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian ``Snooky'' Phipps Bond; a daughter, Patricia B. Hungate, of Washington, N.C.; a son, Edward G. Bond Jr., of Rocky Mount; a sister, Ruth B. Conger, of Charlotte; a brother, Lyn Bond Jr., of Charlotte; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Friday in St. Paul's Episcopal Church by the Revs. John C. Rivers and Kenneth Word. Burial will be in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Williford-Barham Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cardiac Rehab Center, Chowan Hospital, Edenton, or to the Stony Creek Fire and Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 7987, Rocky Mount, N.C., or to the St. Paul's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund.
