Mrs. John Meeker, who lived most of her life in this area, died on March 30th at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester. She had been a patient there for 10 days. Death was due to cancer.
The former Mary Baker, daughter of James and Ella (Talbot) Baker, was born in Jordan Township on Sept. 2, 1894. She and Mr. Baker (sic) were married in Chatfield on Oct. 3, 1916. They farmed in Fillmore County and then lived in Rochester for nine years. Mr. Meeker died on Jan. 13, 1974, and Mrs. Meeker had lived in Chatfield for a year.
Surviving are two sons, Lloyd and Lyle; two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Asher and Mrs. Harold (Helen) Baker, all of Chatfield; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Meeker was preceded in death by a brother, a sister, a grandson, a granddaughter, and a great-granddaughter.
The Rev. Donald Drury officiated at the funeral which was held on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Pioneer Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the Chatfield Cemetery.
