Larry Dean Howlett was born March 12, 1943 at Oakland, son of Harold and Goldia Lockhart Howlett. He was the youngest of three children. He attended country school east of Oakland until the family moved to a farm northeast of Avoca in 1954. He graduated from Avoca High School in 1961. Later he attended Iowa Western Community College in Co. Bluffs. In 1964, he served his country in Vietnam as a military policeman with the Army for two years.

Aug. 12, 1967, he married Shareen Trauba of Omaha. They became the parents of two daughters, Angel and Emily. In 1968, he joined the Co. Bluffs Police Department and served 28 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police until he retired in June of 1996 due to declining health. He died at age 53 at his home March 4, 1997. He bravely endured a 1 1/2 year battle with lung cancer.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Goldia, in Nov. 1986, and a brother-in-law, Junior Sunderman in July 1986. He is survived by his father, Harold Howlett; his wife, Shareen (Shari); his daughters, Angel Siems (Kent) of Davenport and Emily of Co. Bluffs; sisters, Margaret Sunderman of Avoca and Judy Jordan (Norm) of Shelby, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Co. Bluffs March 8, 1997, with Father Chuck Kottas officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Omaha, NE, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #737.
