Jacob ABEE was the 5th child of pioneer Andrew Eby-Abey-Abee and was probably about six or seven years old when he arrived with his parents in Burke County, N.C. about 1801-1802. He married Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) who was born September 28, 1795. They were married April 11,1819. The census listed his occupation as "cooper". Jacob acquired land in Burke County a mile or two east of where his father Andrew lived and nearby his older brother Peter. Much of te land he acquired is still owned and ocupied by his descendants (1983).
Jacob died intestate (leaving no Will) and Elizabeth petitioned the Burke County court for her "Writ of Doweer". This gave her one-third of the estate of 235 acres on July 19,1873.
Jacob is buried at Smart's Grove Baptist Church in Burke County, N.C., located on Highway 18 a few miles from Morganton toward Shelby, just where Henry River crosses Highway 18. His broken tombstone reads "Jacob Abee Died Nov. 6, 1872 Aged 76y 8mo 4ds". Where his wife Elizabeth is buried, or when she died, is unknown at this time.
