"Francis Jones was born at Pawpaw, Illinois, September 29, 1852 and died at his home in Skidmore, Monday evening, Dec. 16, 1918, aged 66 years 2 months 17 days.
He moved with his parents to Iowa in 1868 and April 6, 1881 he was married to Octavia A. Hinds, of Woodland, Iowa, who departed this life at Skidmore, Nov. 9, 1907. To this union two daughters were born, Mrs. Lenna M. Cottrell, of Meadow Grove, Nebraska, and Mrs. Laura A. Goslee, living a mile northeast of town.
He was married to Miss Annie E. Shell of Skidmore, January 5, 1910.
Besides his wife and two daughters mentioned, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Sarah Breeze, of Pawpaw, Ill., who is now 86 years of age, and four sisters, Mrs. L. Merritt, Agra, Oklahoma, Mrs. Minnie Hamlin, Corning, Kansas, Mrs. Ina Hamlin, Circleville, Kansas and Ms. Jennie Bennett, of Pawpaw, Illinois. A brother, Will Jones, preceded him, having died here several years ago.
Mr. Jones came to this state about 25 years ago, making his home in Skidmore. He lived a quiet life attended strictly to his own business, and treated all with whom he had dealings honestly and fairly.
In his passing his family lose a loving and faithful husband and father and the community an upright and honored citizen.
Funeral services in charge of Rev. M. Moore were held at the Christian church, of which he was a member, Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock and the remains were laid away in the family lot in the Masonic cemetery."
