William served in the Civil War, enlisting from his hometown, Portland, Michigan. He was the son of Salmit (?) and William Disbrow.

For many years W.D. kept a small grocery store at the foot of Kent street.

Obituary of Mr. Disbrow: William D. Disbrow died at his home in this village on Sunday morning last of lung trouble, after being confined to the house but a short time, but having been sick for some months, in the 72nd year of his age.
Deceased was a native of Ontario county, N.Y., and came to Michigan with his parents when 14 years of age, coming first to Ann Arbor. Mr. Disbrow came to Portland about 1848 and had since resided here.
During his residence here he was engaged in mercantile business for some years, and he was also connected with R.B. Smith's flouring mill for some years. At the time of his death he was township treasurer.
The funeral services were conducted from his late residence on Bridge street on Tuesday forenoon of this week, the Odd Fellows, of which order he was a member, having charge of the burial, Rev. W. P. French conducting the services.
Mr. Disbrow leaves a widow but no children. He was an honest, upright man.
Mrs. Disbrow being left entirely alone, and in poor health, has the sympathy of a large circle of friends in her bereavement.
