During World War I, he was the acting postmaster when the regular postmaster, the late Dr. Thomas Coonan, was serving in the armed forces. He resigned this position during the administration of the late Harry M. Kimmey.
His wife, Lillie May Lindsey Nygren, preceded him in death. He is survived by five sons: Louis and Dr. Edward J., Baltimore, Donald L., Alaska, Carl D., Westminster, and John G., Fl.; one brother, Edward Nygren, Baltimore; two sisters, Mrs. Belle Coppersmith and Miss Laura Nygren, both of Westminster; and two grandchildren.
