Jordan E. Patkin was born on November 4, 1924, and grew up in Malden, Massachussets, and lived in Massachussets, until he and his wife, Rhoda, retired to Charlottesville, in 1987.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rhoda, of 65 years; his children, Robert Patkin and his wife, Linda, Loi Patkin and her husband, Paul Clarke, and Diane Kowalski and her husband, Ted; his six grandchildren, Andrew, Michael and Melissa Patkin, Mariah Clark, Sam, and Ian Kowalski; and one great-grandchild, William. He is also survived by his brother, Stanley Patkin; and sisters, Shayna Gochberg and Bernice Shuman.
Jordan graduated from Clark School in Hanover, New Hampshire, and then enlisted in the United States Army Air Force Air Sea Rescue Service. He co-owned Ferry Street Motor Sales and then Patkin Cadillac.
Jordan's passion was collecting Antique Photographica and he loved to share his collection and knowledge of photography with friends, family and the community. He specialized in 3D photography.
Jordan dedicated his life to helping those less fortunate. He was an active member of Lions Club International for over 60 years and was awarded the Lion of Virginia 1995, and was a Melvin Jones Fellow.
In Topsfield, Massachussets, he served as a selectman from 1980 until 1986, was on the Masconomet Regional High School Committee from 1970 until 1979, was a director of the Tri Town Council from 1966 until 1978, and director and treasurer of ABC (A Better Chance) from 1972 until 1978. He was a Director of Bridge Over Troubled Waters from 1970 until 1982 and served as both President and Treasurer.
Among his many accomplishments was his involvement with the Boy Scouts of America Air Explorer posts from 1966 until 1980 in Peabody, Massachussets. He was an instructor and licensed pilot with commercial and instrument rating. He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes.
He was a proud member of Beacon Club of Charlottesville-Albemarle, having served as both Secretary and Treasurer. He was a former member of Congregation Beth Israel in Charlottesville.
