Marion Heenan Glasford was born on July 19, 1861 near Lancaster, Illinois in Peoria County, the son of John Milton Glasford and Margaret (Fuller) Glasford. In the summer of 1862, when Marion was just one year old, his father volunteered to serve in what was to become Co. I of the 86th Illinois. John served for two years before being Killed in Action on September 1, 1864 during the Battle of Jonesboro, Georgia. John's mortal remains were initially laid to rest on the Jonesboro Battlefield, but several years later were exhumed and re-interred in the Marietta National Cemetery. One of John's descendants later put a cenotaph in the Lancaster Cemetery near Glasford, Illinois in remembrance of him. Marion's mother was married to James Owens later that year

Marion Glasford was married to Mary Evelyn Middleton on October 14, 1885 in Beaver Crossing, Seward County, Nebraska. Mary was born on Feb. 16, 1868 in Taylorville, Christian County, Illinois, the daughter of __________ Middleton and __________ (__________) Middleton.

1. Orville Leverett Glasford, born Sep. 12, 1886 in Beaver Crossing, Seward County, Nebraska; died Jul. 29, 1957 in Trivoli, Peoria County, Illinois.

2. Glenn Glasford, born c. 1890/91 in Nebraska.

3. Bessie Glasford, born c. 1895/96 in Illinois.

4. Maurice Glasford, born c. 1900/01 in Illinois.
